— Denys, you are the head of one of the UBA’s subdivisions – the Section of Attorneys, Lawyers of Law Firms and Self-Employed Lawyers. What is your key goal?
The Section is one of the largest subdivisions of the Association. It has 3,296 members. The key goal is to create a community of practicing attorneys in various fields who are united by a desire for professional and managerial development, innovation and the highest standards of practice.
I am grateful to my colleagues who agreed to serve on the Section’s Board: Yevhen Hrushovets, Stanislav Pelyuk, Taras Poshyvanyuk, Dmytro Neofita, and Serhiy Matviyiv.
— What priorities have you and your team identified as top priorities?
We have identified four key priorities:
- Influencing state decisions in the field of human rights protection, professional rights and guarantees of lawyers, expressing public positions of the community in this regard;
- comprehensive assistance to fellow lawyers who are defending the country and veteran lawyers;
- improvement of the bar self-government;
- development of WCC practices, implementation of world-class management and ethical standards.
— Denis, what new formats and initiatives should we expect within the framework of the section?
We plan to combine both classic, time-tested event formats and new ones.
We plan monthly thematic meetings of the Advocate Talk section. A new initiative is public interviews with government officials, parliamentarians and judges. Despite all the difficulties of the war, we plan to be active in the regions. We are preliminarily focusing on Lviv, Kharkiv and Odesa.
We will also introduce various social and charitable initiatives for our colleagues who are in the military. A separate area of focus is helping our veteran colleagues adapt. We will focus on educational activities for young lawyers who are just starting their practice.
To understand current needs and assess the situation, we will use surveys and research tools. We plan to conduct a survey of colleagues to identify needs and assess the situation in practice.
As you can see, we have ambitious goals and intense plans.
