The purpose of the draft law is to speed up the process of aligning Ukrainian sanctions with those imposed by international partners.
The proposal includes:
- Expansion of grounds for applying sanctions
Sanctions imposed by a foreign state in connection with the aggression of the Russian Federation will become grounds for applying sanctions in Ukraine.
Ukraine will be able to impose sanctions on an entity immediately after it appears on the sanctions lists of another state.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the initiator of sanctions
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be able to submit proposals to the National Security and Defence Council on the application of sanctions based on decisions of international organisations and foreign states.
- Synchronisation of sanctions
The revocation of sanctions decisions by international bodies and foreign states will constitute grounds for their cancellation in Ukraine.
It should be recalled that, in June, the President issued a decree instructing the Cabinet of Ministers and the Security Service of Ukraine to synchronise and implement the sanctions of international partners.
